Bulgaria set for tourism boost
Bulgaria hopes to boost its profile as a top tourist destination.
The Bulgarian Agency for Tourism has announced that its primary goal for 2006 will be to develop tourism in the country, with the aim of participating in the International Tourist Exhibition, Focus English News reports.
Recently the agency produced a memo of 25 demands, which it sent to the president and numerous government departments.
The memo claimed that Bulgaria has been unable to develop its potential as a top holiday destination due to the lack of a national strategy on tourism, the Sofia Echo reports.
Nevertheless, figures for 2005 show that Bulgaria's tourist industry is performing well.
In the first 11 months of last year, the number of international visitors rose by around five per cent, with 4,585,875 foreign travellers arriving in the country.
